Troubleshoot AI connections to ioTORQ LEAN

Having trouble connecting to ioTORQ LEAN or getting the answer you expected? Find the issue that best matches what you are seeing below.

Q: I can't connect to ioTORQ LEAN

Check the address first. It must be your organization's LEAN address, start with https:// and end in /mcp. For example: https://yourcompany.iotorq-lean.com/mcp. A missing /mcp is a common reason for the connection to fail.

Then check the connection details provided by ioTORQ Support:

  • The Client ID and Client Secret are entered exactly as provided. A copied space or a missing character stops the connection with an error such as invalid_client.

  • The details are for the right AI application. Connection details issued for Claude do not work in ChatGPT, and the other way around.

If you no longer have the Client Secret, contact ioTORQ Support for a new one. For security, a Client Secret cannot be retrieved once issued.

Q: I connected successfully, but get a permission error

Disconnect ioTORQ LEAN from your AI application's settings, reconnect it, and approve the requested access.

If the problem affects only a particular facility or asset, check whether you can see it directly in LEAN. If you cannot see it in LEAN, the AI application cannot see it either.

Q: I'm asked to sign in to LEAN again

This is expected from time to time. For your security, LEAN ends the connection and asks you to sign in again when:

  • You haven't used the connection for an extended period

  • Your LEAN role or permissions change

  • You are asked to reset your LEAN password

  • Your multi-factor authentication is set up or reset

  • You log out of all sessions in LEAN

Sign in again, approve the requested access, and continue. If the AI application doesn't prompt you to sign in, disconnect ioTORQ LEAN and connect it again.

Q: I don't get a response to my question

The steps differ slightly depending on the application you are using.

ChatGPT

Make sure ioTORQ LEAN is enabled for the conversation you are using. Having the connection set up in ChatGPT does not mean it is used in every conversation.

Claude

The first time Claude needs to retrieve information from ioTORQ LEAN, it may ask for permission to use the connection. Approve the request to continue.

If the problem continues, try a simple question to confirm the connection is working:

Which facilities can I access in ioTORQ LEAN?

Q: The AI application cannot find an asset or facility

Try making your question more specific.

  1. Include the facility.
Instead of asking: Show the downtime for Filler 2.
Try: Show the downtime for Filler 2 at the Vancouver facility.

  2. Use the name as it appears in LEAN.
Use words from the asset or facility name exactly as they appear in LEAN. If more than one asset matches, the AI application may ask you which one you mean.

  3. Ask what is available first.
For example: Which assets are at the Toronto plant?
You can then choose the right asset from the results.

Remember that the AI application uses your LEAN permissions. If your account cannot see a facility or asset in LEAN, the AI application cannot see it on your behalf.

Q: The figures don't match what I see in LEAN

  1. Check the timezone. Unless you ask for the facility's local time, days, weeks and months are calculated in UTC, while LEAN may be showing you local time. Ask again with using the facility's local time.

  2. Check the period. Make sure you are comparing the same start and end. For example, today runs from midnight until now, the last 24 hours ends at the start of the current hour, and the current shift follows the shifts configured for the facility in LEAN.

  3. Check which asset was used. If the figures still don't match, ask: Which asset and which period did you use for this answer?
Then open that asset in LEAN and compare the results. Assets with similar names can sometimes lead the AI application to pick a different asset than the one you meant.

Q: I asked about the current or last shift and got no answer

The AI application works out a shift from the shifts configured for the facility in LEAN. If no shift covers that time, there is no shift to report on. Ask for the same information with a date and time range instead, for example from 6:00 to 14:00 today. In addition as of September 2026, filtering by shifts is a feature still in development, therefore not every prompt may have it enabled yet.

Q: I get a "too many tool calls running at the same time" message

The AI application asked LEAN for several things at once, more than one account can run at the same time. Wait for the answers already in progress to finish, then try your question again, or ask about fewer assets at once. You do not need to reconnect to LEAN.

Q: I can't justify downtime or assign a cause

This is expected. The ioTORQ LEAN AI connection is read-only. It can retrieve information about downtime and its causes, but it cannot justify downtime, assign causes, or change any other data.

These actions must be done directly in LEAN.

Q: The answer looks incorrect or invented

AI applications can occasionally produce an incorrect answer or make a wrong assumption. If an answer does not look right, ask: Which asset and which period did you use for this answer?

Then check the asset and its data directly in LEAN before acting on important information. If you repeatedly receive incorrect answers about your LEAN data, contact ioTORQ Support and include the question you asked. This helps us investigate the issue.

Start the connection again

If the steps above do not solve the problem, remove the ioTORQ LEAN connection from your AI application and follow the relevant setup guide again.

Disconnecting the AI application does not change or delete anything in LEAN.
